Dan Gray Lacy Round Head

Dan Gray Lacy Round Head – This line was purchased from GE Mapalad. They were initially a disappointment as the F1’s hatched as a variety of chickens. Some stags were pop-eyed, some open tailed, some were straight combed and others were pea combed. They were all wine red, white feet medium stationed.  The pullets came in two colors, some wine red and others light hackled. Many came out with dark legs. It was a let down cause we made it clear that we were looking for straight breds. What we got were plain crosses probably like the original blend that would later become the Dan Grays. We fought the stags and made a 60% winning percentage. Out of disappointment, I tried to swap the trio with other breeders but succeeding only with a swap of one hen. However, hoping that our money would not go to waste, we decided to improve and fix the line through selective breeding. They now mostly come out more uniformly, wine red, pea combed, white feet medium high stationed and straight combed stags and dark legged pullets are now just throwbacks not the norm. They tend to dominate the fight and are tremendous body punchers.
